The knowledge of the geology and of the processes causing the evolution of our territory is a very important issue, always recognised of primary importance by the administration of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
This knowledge is fundamental for a proper management of the territory from an urbanistic, industrial and tourist point of view and for a balanced and rational exploitation of the natural resources.
The knowledge of geomorphologic and geodynamic processes constitutes a starting point for prevention and protection policy for built-up areas and infrastructures from the so-called “hydrogeological risk” on which our administration has invested a lot of resources in the last decades. The survey activities of a new geological map have begun in the early nineties with the “Geological CARtography (CARG) Project”, aimed to realise a new National Geological Map.

The Geological Cartography (CARG) Project

This is the part of the CARG Program managed and co-financed by the Autonomous Province of Trento. This national program, co-ordinated by the Italian Geological Survey, foresees the realisation of a new Italian Geological Map at the 1:50.000 scale and its digital database. The project, until now divided into three financing, foresees the realisation of eight sheets of the Italian Geological Map at the 1:50.000 scale.
The survey is realised on the base of the Provincial Technical Map at a 1:10.000 scale. All data are computerised at the Geological Survey and will compose the geological database.

The own production of geological map

The Autonomous Province of Trento wanted to extend and achieve a more detailed map than the national-project’s one and to realise a complete territorial geological database more useful for our own institutional aims. Now available are:

  • Trentino (scale 1:200.000)

  • Tables at a 1:25.000 scale (among which the table Fondo)

  • Experimental section “Laghi di Cornisello” (scale 1:10.000) for the survey of superficial deposits in alpine areas.
